Camper Fire Damages Trailer In West Rome
A tractor trailer was damaged and a small camper was destroyed in an fire that broke out in West Rome early Sunday night.
Rome firefighters (Fire Engines 6 and 5) responded to the 1100 block of Burnett Ferry Road, just south of Alto Park, just before 6 p.m.
Initial reports stated that a camper was on fire and quickly igniting two nearby semi-trailers. Engine 6 arrived to find the small camper engulfed in flames that were also extending into the trailer, which contained household items in storage.
The fire was quickly extinguished. Although the camper appeared totally destroyed, the trailer and its contents appeared only moderately damaged.
According to nearby residents, the camper was not currently in use.
A Floyd County Police officer was investigating the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
