County To Award Bids, Approve Contracts, Consider Requests

By RomeNewswire • on November 24, 2009

The Floyd County Commission has a variety of issues to discuss when it meets tonight (Tuesday) at 6 p.m.

Several bids are expected to be awarded during Tuesday’s commission meeting.

Those of those being awarded is the bid for kitchen and concession equipment, along with appliances, for the Shannon Community Center and the North Floyd Community Center.

Funds for those items were provided from the 2006 SPLOST (special purpose, local option sales tax).

The county commission is also expected to award two bids for Prison Commissary and Trust Fund Accounting Services; and for heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) renovations at the Floyd County Health Department.

County commissioners are also likely to approve two contracts.

A Floyd County Jail contract with the city of Cave Spring has been finalized, although the municipality already utilizes the jail’s services for housing inmates.

A contract with ECS, LLC Southeast is also expected to be approved by the county commission. That contract, funded also through the 2006 SPLOST, would contract the company to provide geotechnical services in connection with the Armuchee Connector Project.

Two separate requests have been presented to the Floyd County Commission for consideration.

The city of Cave Spring has requested to purchase a surplus county dump truck.

The county commission will also be asked to consider a request to amend the Floyd Emergency Management Agency (EMA) budget to allow the purchase of a new boat motor, at an estimated cost of $7,500.

The Floyd County Commission is also expected to:

  • Authorize the execution of a Championship Agreement between Shorter College Inc., the city of Rome, Floyd County and the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Football Championship Game at Barron Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 19.
  •  Conduct a public hearing for a request for rezoning from suburban residential (S-R) to multi-family residential (M-R) for quadruplexes on property located at Midway Park Road in Silver Creek. The requests comes with a Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission recommendation to approve (8-0), with a condition that a plat be recorded showing the zoning line.
  • Inform the public that Floyd County offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holidays.
  • Discuss with the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority (RFPRA) during caucus the fitness equipment purchase for North Floyd Park.

The Floyd County Commission caucus begins today, Nov. 24, at 4 p.m., followed by the commission meeting at 6 p.m., at the Floyd County Administrative Building on East Fourth Avenue. The public is invited to attend.
