The Ross Family Literacy Center is hosting The SISTA Project, a peer lead social skills education training intervention program that teaches effective communication skills and promotes self-love and self protection. Upon the completion of the 3-day session, each participant will receive a certificate and a $25 gift card. The Noon Optimist Club of Rome and the Noon Optimist Club of Cartersville are sponsoring a Junior Golf Tournament for boys and girls ages 10 to 18. The tournament will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at the Meadow Lakes Golf Club in Cedartown. The registration fee is only $15.00, payable at the tournament. Please contact your high school golf coach for registration forms or call 770-748-4942. Winners in each age group will go on to compete in the Georgia District Optimist Golf Tournament on June 23 at the Bridge Mill Athletic Club in Canton. The Rome Area Council for the Arts and the City of Rome Downtown Development Authority will sponsor a downtown art walk on Saturday May 10. From 11:00 am until 4:00 pm, Broad Street will be filled with local painters, potters, writers, photographers and even a blacksmith who will be outside selling and demonstrating their art. Local businesses are sponsoring artists to benefit RACA. Visit Broad Street on May 10 for a day of art and music! Maps showing locations of artists are available at RACA and at the Downtown Development Office in the Carnegie Building, or you can pick one up from any participating artist/business on the day of the art walk.
