32 foster homes in Floyd County for more than 350 children who need foster care. DFACS officials say those are numbers that don’t fit into a successful equation.

Ross Collins, head of the DFACS office in Floyd County says that a big issue he’s faced in recent years involves family’s who take a foster child, wind up formally adopting that child and pulling out of the foster care system.

Unity Christian Names First Head Football Coach

Joe Curtiss, athletics director at Unity Christian School, has been named the school’s first head football coach, UCS headmaster Glenn Getchell announced Thursday. Curtiss, who is also a physical education teacher at UCS, has spent the past three seasons as the defensive line coach at Shorter College.

Load of Concrete Pipe Shifts Causing Truck To Block Turner McCall.

A tractor trailer making a sudden stop had its load shift and slam into the cab of the truck in front of Floyd Medical Center Thursday afternoon.

According to Rome police, a vehicle pulled into the path of the truck and stop causing the tractor trailer to slam on his breaks. The sudden stop caused the load of concrete pipes to shift.

The outside lane of Turner McCall Blvd is still blocked while the load is being resecured.

Stabbing On Timberwood Drive (See Video)

According to Floyd County police, an argument between two brothers ended in one sibling stabbing the other on Timberwood Drive in Silver Creek.

Rome/Floyd Fire, EMS and Floyd County police responded to the home at 22 Timberwood Drive after the altercation and found the unidentified suspect had fled the scene in a white Honda Accord.

Police quickly located the suspect and apprehended him on Old Rockmart Road near the entrance to Ridgewood.

A female was also apprehended but was released after police determined she was not involved in the assault.

The suspect was taken to the Floyd County jail and according to police will be charged with Aggravated Assault.

The victim was not severely injured and refused to be transported to the hospital.

Chase Holtzclaw Returns To Work

A horrific accident severely injured Sheriff’s Deputy Chase Holtzclaw last November when he collided with a Tractor trailer US 411 while heading home after a shift at the jail.

This Sunday, Holtzclaw will return to work at the Floyd County jail.

Holtzclaw was driving a his Dodge pickup truck when he collided with a North bound tractor trailer car hauler driven by 45 year old Charles Ray Lightsey of Alabama.

Holtzclaw’s truck flipped several times after the collision and he had to be extricated from the wreckage.

Jail officials say they are thrilled that Chase is well enough to return to work.
